What to Buy in cat street

While many people come to browse and enjoy the atmosphere of Cat Street it is of course a market, some call it Cat Street Bazaar or Flea Market, and of course much of what you can see is available for sale.

Items range in price depending upon rarity and size, as well as age.  Remember that much of the material on display are modern reproductions intended for interior decoration, and are not antique in the literal sense.

Items such as glass snuff bottles painted inside, and Chairman Mao figurines are common. Small pieces of brass-work are a great idea as well.

Interesting finds are often at the back of overcrowded shops, so be prepared to spend some time getting your hands dirty!

You will find many stalls however showing small pieces of jade in a variety of shapes, and together with these reproductions of traditional Chinese coins. Bigger pieces such as ceramic horsemen are also to be found alongside vases from a variety of periods.

While some bargaining is expected, particularly by the stalls, massive discounts should not be expected.  If 20% can be negotiated when buying several items then both buyer and seller can be satisfied.
